Litigation
This firm has been composed of trial lawyers since its founding in 1954. In the past twenty years, our attorneys have tried cases throughout southern Minnesota, as well as in Hennepin and Ramsey Counties (Minneapolis and St. Paul) and in the United States District Courts for the District of Minnesota in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. We have handled appeals before the Minnesota Court of Appeals, the Minnesota Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and the United States Tax Court.
a. Wrongful Death, Personal Injury and Insurance
The firm has handled cases on behalf of family members of individuals who have lost their lives in accidents. Recent recoveries include settlements in ranges of six and seven figures. We have an active personal injury practice on behalf of persons who have been injured.
Our attorneys also have handled defense work for insurance companies, including the representation of alleged tortfeasors and insurers in coverage disputes. Our representation of both plaintiffs and defendants help us to arrive at a realistic evaluation of cases.
We have an active No-Fault practice on behalf of claimants and insurers, and handle many No-Fault arbitrations.
b. Class Actions.
We have handled complex multiparty litigation, and have been court-appointed as lead class counsel in two statewide class actions, the 1988 Chubb drought insurance litigation and the 1991 Minnesota State Lottery class action arising out of the conduct of one of the lottery games. Both resulted in relief equivalent to a 100% recovery on behalf of the class members. We have also served as counsel in smaller class actions. We have also been court-appointed to serve as counsel for the liquidator of a Minnesota-based insurer, which involved complex litigation in several courts.
As a general litigation firm, we handle most types of commercial litigation, including UCC matters, foreclosure and repossession or mortgaged and secured property, and collections. We also have an active practice involving construction litigation, including contract disputes, claims on bonds, and zoning matters.
We handle employment litigation, including the defense of claims of discrimination brought against employers. We represent several of the area’s largest employers in employment matters before the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, and state and federal courts.
e. Other Litigation
We handle a variety of other litigation, including Family Law, Criminal Law, and disputes involving Wills and Probate. In those few areas where we do not actively practice, we can refer to you specialists.
