Firm Settles Wrongful Death Cases
Rick
Tollefson recently obtained substantial settlements in two wrongful
death cases. In
one case, a record settlement was obtained for a twenty-nine year old
woman, who was killed when her vehicle was struck by a semi carrying
an oversize load hanging over the center line during foggy conditions.
She was survived by her husband and two children from prior marriages.
At the time of her tragic death she was earning $8.40 per hour. The
case settled in mediation for a total payout over time of over $3,300,000,
with a present value of $1,714,000. This settlement is believed to be
a record in this area for the wrongful death of a wage earner.
Firm Retained as Counsel for Citizens Against Rochester’s Bypass
The firm represented a group of rural residents of Olmsted County
opposed to Rochester’s effort to reroute the DM&E Railroad through
their farms and properties. This effort was rejected by the United
States Surface Transportation Board (STB), and that decision was affirmed by the United States
Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
